Even Now
"Even Now" is a worship song of lament and praise that was born out of a season of grief. I wrote it after receiving the news that I had lost a loved one to suicide only a few days before I was scheduled to lead worship at church. In the following weeks, I wanted to write a song that held grief and praise together, without diminishing either one.
The lyrics to "Even Now" are especially relatable now that we are all experiencing the collective grief of living through a pandemic. This song weaves in ideas from Lamentations 3:19-26 and Habakkuk 3:17-18… verses that express feeling deep sorrow and loss, and at the same choosing to rejoice in God.
With a very simple chorus that can be taught and learned in seconds, this worship song is easy for worship teams and congregations to learn quickly.

Themes: grief, suffering, lament, praise, surrender, faithfulness of God
Lyric preview:
"I wish this sorrow had not come to me If only You had spared me from this grief Yet still this heavy heart, trampled and torn apart Oh God, is holding on to who You are Even now even now I trust that You are good Even now even now My praise belongs to You" Full lyrics |

Spend My Life
Based on Matthew 6:19-21 (“do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…) and this famous quote by missionary, Jim Elliott: "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." It also includes a paraphrase of Isaiah 40:8: "The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”
This is a slow worship song with similar energy to "New Wine" by Hillsong Worship that has become a favourite at my church! The verses and chorus are easy for a congregation to learn, and this song sounds equally good with a full band or just one instrument. The lyrics focus us on an eternal perspective, and are especially apt for baptisms, commissioning, or stewardship/giving themes in services or events.

"I have a wealth that never fades Riches no thief can ever take I have a glorious reward I have forever So I won't hold on to the wilting grass I will give my all for the things that last Trade what I can't keep for what I can't lose I will spend my life on You" Full lyrics |

True On The Outside
A soulful worship song with a laidback R&B/gospel vibe that just makes you feel good!
Inspired by 1 John 3:18: “Let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions” and James 2:14-26: "faith without deeds is dead".
This is especially great for churches or groups that have a more soulful/gospel musical style, but this song can also be done in a more mainstream contemporary style with simple instrumentation. The chorus is simple enough for anyone to sing along with and it lends itself easily to vocal harmonies.

Higher View
Higher View is a worship song I wrote for my church's 2020 fall series, "That's A Great Question"*, exploring tough questions, including "Why does God allow so much suffering?".
In the midst of this pandemic, we bring our questions and confusion to God, and we find that He is worthy to be trusted with all the things we don’t understand.
Bible verses referenced: Isaiah 55:8-10, Romans 11:33-34, 1 Corinthians 13:12
* sermons and study guides available at the "Resources" page on www.mcbc.org
